The Peels Stormbird Cruise is a great way to orientate yourself with the general Lakes Entrance and Metung area. The duration of the cruise is about 4 hours and it includes a 2 course meal at the Metung Hotel for lunch. You get a bit of time to yourself in Metung, so enjoy a couple of cold ones with lunch at the pub, and go for a bit of a wander around the township and marina. I have been told that the Peels have been charting tourist cruises in the Gippsland Lakes for the past 20 years. You can really tell by the captain's expert commentary about the lakes system itself and the assorted wildlife that exists in the area. On my trips on the cruise, I haven't come accross dolphins and seals playing around the boat, but I have been told they are quite common. Maybe you will get lucky! This tour comes highly recommended, and as for the Metung Pub - I couldn't think of a nicer place to be sipping a few than in the pub's beer garden. Even if you don't take the cruise, head out to Metung and explore the town call in for a beer. Advance bookings are advised and may be made at The Wharf Office, Esplanade Travel or at the Visitor Information Centre. You can contact Peels direct on 03 5155 1246.
