Tambo River - Near The Mouth
User Rating: / 9
PoorBest

The Tambo River is synonymous with Bream fishing.  One of the best places that we have found for bream is the mouth of the Tambo River.

To get there, take the road out of Lakes Entrance towards Bairnsdale, until you get to the Tambo River at Swan Reach.

Turn right along Metung road, in the direction of Metung, and then turn right into Punt Road.  Follow this to Reynolds Road for 2 kilometres and you will come to a dirt road.

Along this dirt road is plenty of spots to put up a chair, light a camp fire and throw a line in the water.

Try casting near any snags along the bank with prawns, shrimp, sand worm or some white bait.  As well as bream, you can also find mullet, flathead, tailor, and estuary perch.

This is a ripper spot, and you have the advantage of moving up the river if the fish are off the bite, or even pop into Metung for a coffee or a pot.

 The Gippsland lakes is a mecca for bream fishing. The Tambo is great, but the Mitchell is spectacular in winter. Try the areas around the silt jetties. Sandworm and peeled prawn are the go.

The point at Metung is worth a look at if the tide is not running too hard, and there is not much weed. You only need to cast a lightly weighted bait a few meters from the shore
